Populus tristis is een boomsoort uit de wilgenfamilie (Salicaceae). De soort wordt gerekend tot de sectie Tacamahaca (Balsempopulieren). De boom is inheems in Noordoost-Azië.
De soortnaam P. tristis is door ITIS geaccepteerd.[1]. Bij kwekers kan men ook de schrijfwijze Populus x 'Tristis' tegenkomen maar dit betreft een kruising.[2]
